GISH Baseball Finishes Conference Runner Up
(Lincoln, NE) - After winning a quarter-final matchup on Wednesday over Lincoln Southeast, 5-2, the Grand Island baseball team would go 1-1 on the final day of the Heartland Athletic Conference baseball tournament to finish as conference runner-up. GI would pick up a semi-final win over Lincoln Southwest by a score of 6-2. Cohen Nelson would pitch 4 and a 1/3 innings and have 9 strikeouts for the Islanders. Sam Dinkelman would have 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Ethan Foley would give Grand Island a solo home run in the contest.
The Islanders would then turn around and play Lincoln East in the conference championship game. The Spartans downed Kearney in their semi-final game by a final score of 8-3. Lincoln East would then defeat Grand Island by a score of 10-0. Grayson Sack pitched 4 and 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. Sam Dinkelman and Gabe Ruiz each had a hit for GI. Lincoln East, the defending Class A state champions, are now 16-1 on the season. Grand Island is now 10-5. The Islanders are back in action today (Friday, April 12th) hosting North Platte for a doubleheader at Ryder Park.
