C2 State Championship: GICC boys fall in overtime

(Lincoln, NE) - The GICC boys basketball team would get one last heave to Gill Jengmer needing just two points to win the Class C2 title on Friday night in Lincoln but the shot would come up just short as time would expire seeing Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family win the state title with a score of 43-42 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  The Crusaders would lead at the halftime break 18-15. The third quarter would be the highest scoring output by both teams with the Bulldogs outscoring the Crusaders 17-13. The game would go into overtime after being tied in regulation at 37. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family would outscore GICC in the extra period 6-5. The game came down to free throws for both teams. The Bulldogs shot 17-22 (77%), meanwhile, GICC struggled only shooting 7-17 (41%) especially late in the game from the line. Issac Herbeck would go to the line with only seconds remaining to potentially win the game but missed both free shots, which then led the game going into overtime.
